The "GENERATIONS" artist commission is a multi-disciplinary group exhibition based an ancient text in the book of Psalms. Psalm 145:3-5, "Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can fathom. One generation commends your works to another; they tell of your mighty acts. They speak of the glorious splendor of your majesty—and I will meditate on your wonderful works."

On Thursday, March 26th, ten new works will debut with live presentations and performances from:

Diego Best
Alexa Cummins
Doyina Eyam-Ozung
Jonathan Flores
Catherine Gould
Laura Hu
Dakota Wayne Jessen
Jeehee Kang
Katelynn Leora Meyer
Josh Tiessen

The presentation and distribution of this work is meant to be a gift, invitation, and  impetus for wonder and contemplation for the city of New York.

Church of the City New York is in pursuit of the church becoming a patron of the arts once again. New York City is full of artists of all mediums and disciplines and Church of the City longs to reflect that deep well of creativity in our city. The work on display has been funded and supported by Church of the City New York.

Throughout Scripture, the story of God unfolds from one generation to the next. What He's done is told from father to son, mother to daughter. The lineage of Jesus can be followed all the way back to David, Jacob, Isaac, and Abraham. Today, the family of God has expanded so that lineage and genealogy is not simply based on bloodline, but the adoption of people from every tribe, nation, and tongue through the sacrifice of the Son.

From seed, to sprout, to tree, to fruit, passing down life and legacy is apparent even in nature.

We see importance of passing stories to the next generation all throughout Scripture. Psalm 102:18 says, "Let this be written for a future generation, that a people not yet created may praise the Lord," and Joel 1:3 commands us, "Tell it to your children, and let your children tell it to their children, and their children to the next generation."

The gallery will be open to the public from March 26th to April 6th. Check Creative.NYC for times.

Light refreshments will be served.
Location: 417 W. 57th Street
